Hospice is a form of care tailored specifically for the needs of individuals and families facing a life-limiting illness. A diverse medical care team works together to manage pain, increase comfort, and support every aspect of a patient’s physical, emotional, and spiritual health. The goal of hospice is to help people live their last days with respect, peace and dignity.
Hospice care is covered under Medicare, Medicaid, most private insurance plans, HMOs, and other managed care organizations.
Hospice care is for people with a life-limiting illness who want comfort care rather than curative treatment. Typically, a person qualifies for hospice when life expectancy is six months or less, but that timeframe is flexible. We recommend speaking with your loved one’s physician to discuss care options. If they believe that hospice care services are the right choice, they will provide a referral. We are also available to speak with you about care options, and to coordinate with your loved one’s physician. If the patient does not have a physician, we are able to provide a referral. No, Sehaj Hospice Care physicians work closely with each patient’s personal physician to determine a hospice plan of care tailored to meet each patient’s needs and wishes.
Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, cancer, congestive heart failure, liver disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and more. Any illness or injury resulting in a professional diagnosis of a 6 month or less life expectancy may be eligible for hospice care.
At any time, a patient may decide that hospice care is no longer the best option and return to curative care and be taken off hospice. If their condition worsens again, they can always come back to hospice care if they meet Medicare criteria.
